Our Class
Q: Why do we create?
A: Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering. Our class will have a small version of this to encourage innovative thinking from our students. Things we can ALWAYS use include:
Q: Why is it important to practice the skill for spelling instead of memorize spelling words?
A: When students memorize spelling words in order to pass a test, they will likely forget these words soon after the test is over. If we work on studying the spelling pattern, they will be more likely to retain the information and be able to spell more than just 10 words.
Q: What is flexible seating and why do we have it?
A: In my opinion, we need to realize that these are 6 and 7 year olds who are being taught information at a rigorous pace. The bottom line is that I learn best when I am comfortable. I teach better if I am comfortable. I want these kids to be able to focus on their learning rather than the fact that they are being forced to sit still in a chair and they really want to get up. I would also like to include that there are always regular desks available for those students who feel they need them. The power of choice gives my students motivation to do right and work hard! There is plenty of research to back this new idea and if you are interested in learning more, this was a helpful blog for me!
